Monica’s law

I grow weary of these cases where the domestic violence is overlooked and parents, most often fathers, gain visitation or even custody. Here’s an attempt to get rights for victims of family violence:

Trial date in YMCA slaying is delayed for mental evaluation

Duckett, who had not lost any child visitation rights through the court order, effortlessly made his way into the swimming pool’s observation area, where Paul was with her 11-year-old daughter, Essence, watching her 4-year-old son, Noah, take a swimming lesson.

With their young daughter watching, Duckett fired a handgun several times at Paul and fled, authorities said. Duckett was tracked down by authorities at a Brooklyn apartment 12 days later.

Assemblyman Thomas P. Giblin (D-Essex) is involved in efforts to draft “Monica’s Law,” which would allow women who have documented evidence of abuse to withhold a father’s child visitation rights
